Spring in September
for Saxophone and Tape, 1998

"Spring in September" was created in autumn 1998 at the suggestion of the saxophonist Ulrich Krieger. The composition is the result of intensive collaboration between composer and interpreter. "Spring in September" is based on samples and sound sequences from Ulrich Krieger's saxophone playing. Both the electronic and instrumental parts were developed by Glandien on the basis of Krieger's very individual performance style and improvisational patterns. The electronic part consists mainly of processed saxophone sounds. The live instrumental part, built upon Krieger's improvisational style, was first created as a score sounding virtual, and then, in the following stage of development, it was transferred into conventional notation.
